Bruckheimer developing a sequel to National Treasure

With the original having grossed over $173 million at the domestic box office,
The Walt Disney Co. and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are now developing a sequel
to the Nicolas Cage starrer National Treasure. Jon Turteltaub will return
as the director for the sequel, which is being written by scribe Gregory Poirier.
The original National Treasure opened back in November to only tepid
reviews. To the surprise of many, it went on to become a hit domestically. The
first film saw many scribes during the creative process, with Jim Kouf, Charles
Segars and Oren Aviv (an exec at Disney's Buena Vista) all receiving "story
by" credits, and Kouf and Cormac and Marianne Wibberly getting "screenplay
by" credit.
The story ideas for the second film are being kept under wraps, and it's not
clear whether any of the original cast members will return for the second film.
Jason Reed will oversee for Disney. Aviv and Segars will be executive producers
with Jerry Bruckheimer Films' Chad Oman and Mike Stenson.
Repped by WMA, Poirier recently drafted an update of Swiss Family Robinson
for Disney. That project just attracted the attention of helmer Jonathan Mostow.
His other feature credits include Tomcats, See Spot Run and Gossip.
