Piven tackles his first leading role for New Line

Stepping out of his supporting shoes, Jeremy Piven has started negotiations
to take his first leading role. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the
actor is in talks with New Line Cinema to topline an untitled comedy, formerly
known as Furry Vengeance. Robert Simonds is producing the film from a
script by Josh Gilbert and Michael Carnes.
In this man vs. nature comedy, Piven will star as a cocky real estate developer
in Portland, Ore., who, trying to make partner at his firm, accepts the challenge
of turning a pristine forest into his latest development. Things in his life
take a turn for the worse, however, when the wildlife of the forest takes its
revenge against the developer and creates roadblocks at all his attempts in
developing the land.
New Line executives Kent Alterman, Keith Goldberg and Michele Weiss will be
overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
Piven really broke out this past year playing super-agent Ari Gold on HBO's
Entourage. That role earned him both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.
On the feature side, he'll soon be seen in Scott Marshall's Lucky 13
and is now shooting Joe Carnahan's Smoking Aces. His other credits include
Runaway Jury, Old School and Black Hawk Down, among others.
He is repped by CAA.
