Will Smith is about to be rolling in the dough. Daily Variety reports
the Oscar-nominated actor will star for 20th Century Fox in the thriller Greenbacks,
based on the pitch the studio picked up from scribes Doug Cook and David Weisberg.
Smith will also produce the project with James Lassiter under their Overbrook
Entertainment banner.
This time around Cook and Weisberg, who also penned The Rock and Double
Jeopardy, came up with a script that centers on an American ex-patriot living
in Morocco who stumbles across and international plot to bring down the world's
economy by producing the perfect counterfeit greenbacks.
Smith, repped by CAA, recently signed on to star for Columbia Pictures in the
superhero comedy Tonight, He Comes. He's also just completed work on
Gabriele Muccino's The Pursuit of Happyness, which also features his
son Jadan. Other recent credits for Smith include Hitch, Shark Tale
and I, Robot, among others. He picked up an Oscar nod for his leading
role in Ali.
