Diane Lane has been named ShoWest's 2003 Female Star of the Year. Lane, an
almost certain Oscar contender, received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe
nomination for her starring role in Unfaithful. The award will be presented
to her in Las Vegas on March 6th at ShoWest's closing gala awards banquet.
Lane was recognized for her unusually long career, starting as a teenager opposite
Laurence Olivier in A Little Romance. Her other credits include The
Perfect Storm, A Walk on the Moon, The Outsiders and Chaplin.
She will next appear in the fall 2003 release Under the Tuscan Sun for
director Audrey Wells.
She has also been recognized for her television work, in such productions as
A Streetcar Named Desire and Lonesome Dove, for which she was
nominated for an Emmy, starring opposite Robert Duvall.
Lane can add the ShoWest award to this year's kudos, which include the New
York Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics naming her best actress
for last year's Unfaithful, opposite Richard Gere. An Oscar nomination
could possibly be next.
