Seven Shoot for Makeup Oscar
Return of the King and Monster among those eligible for the Academy
Award for makeup.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has listed seven films that
will be eligible for this year's Academy Award for achieve~ment in makeup. The
Academy made the announcement on Monday, and the eligible films run the gambit
of genres and styles.
The seven films eligible for the 76th annual Academy Awards ceremony are: Cold
Mountain, The Last Samurai, The Lord of the Rings: The Return
of the King, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Monster,
Peter Pan and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Each of the films will now submit a 10-minute clip reel to be screened by the
Makeup Award nominating committee. The clips will be viewed on January 23rd,
and members will be allowed to nominate three of the seven films. Or, if three
films do not recieve the required number of votes for a nomination, one film
can be recommended for a Special Achievement Award. Should no film receive the
required number of votes, no award in the category will be given this year.
If the Award nominating committee chooses to nominate three films, those films
will be announced on January 27th along with other the nominees in 24 other
categories.
