ABC is trying a new stunt to boost ratings and promote its parent company's films with the double-header 2 Days of Night on April 26 and May 3. The show involves a first look at Academy Award nominee M. Night Shyamalan's next summer event film, The Village, as well as the broadcast of two of his films.
Yesterday, The Sixth Sense aired as a presentation of the ABC Monday Movie of the Week. Shyamalan hosted the screening and the world premiere of the trailer for The Village, as well as took audiences behind-the-scenes with never-before-seen footage from the set of the film.
On May 3, Shyamalan returns as host of the Monday Movie of the Week, which will be the network television premiere of Unbreakable. On that evening, Shyamalan will take audiences further inside The Village, showcasing never-before-seen material including an extended look at the film, interviews and behind-the-scenes access.
"We're always looking for added value for our viewers," said Judith Tukich, vice president, synergy, ABC Television Network. "These bonus features make both nights fantastic events." The Village comes from Buena Vista Pictures, whose parent company, Disney, also owns ABC.
The Village stars Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody and William Hurt in the tale of an isolated village confronting the fact that strange and dangerous creatures reside in the surrounding woods. The evil and foreboding force is so unnerving that none dare venture beyond the borders of the village and into the woods. But when curious, headstrong Lucius Hunt (Phoenix) plans to step beyond the boundaries of the town and into the unknown, his bold move threatens to forever change the future of the village. The film opens in theaters nationwide on July 30.
