Poker has achieved such a celebrity status of its own that it was only a matter of time before a film focusing on the game's newfound fame would reach the big screen. To wit, MGM has paid $1 million for an untitled poker pitch from Don Rhymer (Big Momma's House).

Dylan Sellers will produce the comedy about three men who scheme a way to play in the World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas without their wives finding out. Rhymer will write the script, and quickly, because MGM wants to go into production as soon as possible to ride the current poker wave.

Poker tournaments have of course caught fire across the small screen. Bravo, Fox Sports, ESPN and the Travel Channel all now broadcast poker tournaments and celebrity match-ups to consistently solid ratings. Stars from major network primetime shows like The West Wing actively participate.

Rhymer is represented by UTA and Kustom Entertainment. His other credits include Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London, which Sellers also produced for MGM, Disney's Santa Clause 2 and Jumanji 2 for Columbia.
