Colin Hanks has joined the group of actors fighting the mightiest ape of them
all, King Kong, in Peter Jackson's remake of the classic giant gorilla
film. In addition, Early Edition's Kyle Chandler has joined the cast
of the Universal Pictures feature. Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh are producing
the update.
Jackson and Walsh, along with Philippa Boyens - the Oscar-winning team behind
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, penned the script for the remake. The
film stars Jack Black as filmmaker Carl Denham, a 1930s producer filming a movie
starring Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) and Chandler's character, a B-movie actor,
on Skull Island. Hanks will play a production assistant to Denham.
Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in Jackson's Lord of the Rings, will
provide the reference character for the CGI-animated King Kong, as well as play
Lumpy the cook.
Mary Parent will oversee the remake for Universal.
Hanks is repped by CAA and has been seen in Orange County and HBO's
Band of Brothers, while the Gersh-repped Chandler has also been seen
on the TV series The Lyon's Den and What About Joan.
