There was much excitement last month in certain circles when it was announced that French actress Juliette Binoche was going to be featured in a pictorial in the November 2007 French edition of Playboy Magazine. The Internet chatter was that this would be a worthy new addition to a tradition previously espoused by the likes of Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot.
But now that the issue has hit the streets, both collectors and admirers of the female form are in agreement that the main keepsake is the cover rather than anything reproduced on the inside.
As opposed to 42-year-old actress Marisa Tomei, who has several revealing nude scenes in the new Sidney Lumet drama When the Devil Knows You’re Dead, the 43-year-old La Binoche (as she is known in France) insisted that snaps from her second of two photo sessions be blurred to the point of looking more like pieces of abstract art. Thus, her statement to the magazine that, ‘modeling naked for Playboy was equally an act of universal love as well as a feminist act of militancy to change the world,’ is pushing it.
Nevertheless, the November issue, which hit Paris newsstands on October 30th, has essentially sold out from bookstores and kiosks. It’s all part of an initiative by Editor-in-Chief Yan Ceh to transform the Gallic version of Hef’s magazine into a more high-brow publication. The November issue also includes an exclusive look at some of the paintings by Bob Dylan that will go on exhibit later this month in Germany.

There is also no listing of Binoche's turn ons and turn offs. Rather, there is an interview conducted by Antoine de Baecque, former Editor-in-Chief of Cahiers du Cinema and chief culture correspondent for the French newspaper Libération.
