Once upon a time, he played the part of Buzz in the 1990 comedy blockbuster Home Alone. All these years later, Devin Ratray is the star of Courting Condi, a “musical-docu-tragedy-comedy” premiering November 6th at the 2008 Orlando Film Festival.

Ratray has been acting steadily since his stint as Macaulay Culkin’s older brother, but this is the first time he plays himself, in a film for which he is also credited as one of the producers. Sure enough, per the title, the movie is all about one man’s efforts – via music video song serenades – to get closer to sitting Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Though Rice is headed out the White House door as part of a very unpopular Administration, she did recently endear herself to many non-fans by finally admitting that the Iraq War had turned out to be a lot more difficult than expected. To those who question the basic premise of Ratray’s odyssey, I say be thankful that we’re not talking about a former female child actor starring in Charming Cheney.

Along with Courting Condi director Sebastian Doggart (Project Runway, 30 Days), other folks featured in the film include political consultant Dr. Frank Luntz, who has counseled both the Governator and former Republican Presidential hopeful Rudy Guliani, and songwriter Carol Connors, who scored back-to-back Best Original Song Oscar nominations in the 1970’s for Rocky and The Rescuers. And screening as Orlando’s Opening Night Gala just two days after this year’s Presidential election, Courting Condi could benefit from the fact that Rice will soon have a much greater ability to make room on her schedule for a friendly promotional appearance or two.
